Tax and rebates

Health Partners will send your private health insurance statement (also known as tax statement) directly to the ATO. If you lodge your tax return online using myTax or lodge using a registered tax agent, your health insurance details will be pre-filled, so you won’t need a tax statement at all.

The private health insurance rebate is the amount the Australian Government contributes to your Private Health Insurance premiums, and is based on your age and income.

The Australian Government introduced the Medicare Levy Surcharge to reduce demand on the public health system by encouraging those on higher incomes to take out private health insurance.

If you’re single and earn over $93,000 (or $186,000 for families and couples), private hospital cover could reduce your income taxes by avoiding the surcharge.

Lifetime Health Cover is an Australian Government initiative designed to encourage you to take out hospital cover earlier in life, and to keep it. The loading is added onto your hospital premium if you wait until after you’re 31 to take it out.

It’s an aged-based discount. Meaning the younger you are when you takeout hospital cover, the higher your discount. Once you have your age-based discount, it will stay in place until you turn 41 years old.
