How to save on your health insurance

Posted: Oct 30 2023

We’re all about long-term relationships. Which is why our health insurance consultants help members find the right health cover to suit their needs, not just in the short-term but through life.

We will call you down the track to review your health insurance, and ensure you’re covered properly for the things you need and not paying for the things you don’t need.

It’s also important to us to make health insurance simple and easy to understand, so you can feel confident that you’re getting the most value from your cover.

Here are 3 tips to help you save

1. Split your cover from your partner

There’s a really easy way that couples could save on their health insurance, and that’s by splitting their cover. Did you know couples cover is the same price as two single covers?

So if one person wants a higher level of cover than the other, then getting two single policies at different levels will usually save you money on the total cost of your premiums.

One example is pregnancy and birth cover. Only the person who will be getting pregnant needs top hospital cover, your partner can choose a lower level and cheaper hospital cover that’s right for them.

2. Upgrade your cover at the right time

Is having a joint replacement on the cards for you, or maybe you need some more complex dental work?

There are times in your life when you will need more covered under your health insurance. The trick for not overpaying is upgrading at the right time. This could save you a lot of money in the long run, because there are often waiting periods for the cover you need, and these can range anywhere from 2 months to 12 months.

We can help you work out the best time to upgrade so you’re covered for what you need, when you need it, at the best price.

3. Check if you're eligible for bigger extras benefits

If you have hospital cover with Good, Better or Best Extras, you will get a $100 increase to your major dental limit, and a $100 increase to your core therapies limit which includes physio and chiro, at no extra cost.

There’s also higher benefits for the surgical removal of wisdom teeth in hospital on Combined Better or Combined Best Extras Cover.

It’s our way of rewarding our members for choosing to protect their health with hospital and extras cover.
