Sunglass trends to carry with you in 2020

Although sunglasses have traditionally always been worn to protect our eyes and increase visual comfort when facing the glare of the sun, sunglasses are also a must-have fashion accessory which can represent our personal style and add attitude to our look.

Kat Sorre, Store Manager at Health Partners Optical Pirie St, says the emerging styles in 2020 are cat eye shapes, as well as metal frames and more colour for men.

“Black and tortoiseshell are always popular, and in the metal finishes we are seeing a finer, more refined shape and more neutral metallics such as gun metal grey,” Kat says. “Rose gold seems to be on the way out, but we are experiencing more men looking for colour with their tinted frames.”

All in the details

Kat says sunglasses are definitely considered a fashion accessory.

“The classic shapes of Wayfarers and Aviators are timeless, but this year people are also looking for something with a little extra detail,” Kat says. “Whether it’s blue tone or purple lens tint, or even graduated lenses, which start off dark and lighten up towards the bottom of the frame – there are many options our lab can colour-match to, even for prescription lenses.”

Non-prescription lenses are also popular, with Health Partners hospital and extras members receiving 30% off non-prescription frames all year round.

“It’s really important to wear sunglasses in winter as well,” Kat says. “We definitely see our peak season during the warmer months, but there is still UV around in the cooler months, which is important to protect our eyes against.”

Help and advice when you need it

Optical dispensers are a wealth of knowledge – not just giving you advice on the best frames to suit the shape of your face, but also letting you know the types of lenses that will fit in different frames and styles.

“As a dispenser, we will address all the options,” Kat says. “There are different sunglasses frames to suit different activities – such as golf, driving and fishing – so grab a pair for your favourite sport, and another pair for wearing to the beach.”

Whether you’re keen on these type of activities or not, Kat says it is always a good idea to take advantage of Health Partners unlimited optical. What this means is after you’ve used your Optical limits, you’ll get an unlimited 40% off prescription frames no matter how many frames you buy. So you’ll always be able to save on multiple pairs of frames, she suggests.

“You can grab a pair that perfectly match your favourite outfit, as well as a pair with classic styling for every day.”

The most important thing

No matter what frame, style or look you are going for, Kat says the most important thing about choosing your new eyewear is the fit.

“You want your glasses to be comfortable, so we need to make sure they fit well,” Kat says. “The way glasses sit will also affect your field of vision, so make sure you ask the experts for their opinion. In Pirie St Health Partners Optical, we have over 100 combined years of experience, so it makes sense to take advantage of this and let us help.”
