Plan ahead this hay fever season

There are lots of things to love about spring, but hay fever is definitely not one of them. Your immune system takes a real hit, causing symptoms like a runny nose, sneezing, itchy and watery eyes as well as congested sinuses.

Priceline pharmacist Daniel Ravalico has some great advice for preventing hay fever:

1. Check the pollen count

Being aware of the daily pollen count will give you a big advantage and time to prepare treatment in advance. When the pollen count is forecast to be high, you can prepare 24 hours ahead by taking the recommended dosage of antihistamine tablets.

2. Take an antihistamine tablet before going to bed

This will help reduce the harshness of your symptoms like itchy eyes and sneezing, for the next day

3. Try a nasal spray

Nasal sprays are considered to be the most effective treatment on the market compared to hay fever tablets. Corticosteroid and antihistamine sprays act locally in the sinuses to help relieve hay fever symptoms by reducing inflammation and clearing a blocked nose.

If symptoms are chronic, using a combination of hay fever tablets and a nasal spray can help.

Speak with your local Health Partners Pharmacist about how to best treat your hay fever symptoms.
