Healthy habits for great dental hygiene
A healthy mouth is an integral part of a healthy body. It’s tempting to think that everyone has good dental hygiene habits. Sadly, the reality is quite different.
Brushing and flossing your teeth every day is the most important thing you can do to protect your teeth and gums.
Don’t rush when you brush
Brush for at least two minutes, twice a day. Use short, gentle strokes, holding your toothbrush at a 45° angle to the tooth. Pay extra attention to the gum line and back teeth.
Have a routine.
Follow a routine to ensure each tooth is cleaned properly.
Don’t forget your tongue
90% of bad breath is caused by dirty tongues so brush your tongue too.
Floss at least once a day
Even the most efficient tooth brushing won’t remove all plaque deposits which is why we recommend adding flossing to your routine to better clean the gums and between teeth.
If you find it difficult to use floss strips, there’s a wide range of interdental cleaners available which may be an easier alternative for you.
Eat healthy and have less sugary drinks and food
- Limit your sugar intake as it is the single-biggest cause of tooth decay.
- Fluoridated tap water is best.
- Read the ingredients panel on food products as many have hidden sugars.
- Choose teeth friendly foods such as cheese, nuts and vegetables.
- Avoid snacking and grazing throughout the day.
