The Australian Health Insurance Association (AHIA) has launched a new website, You Should Know (www.youshouldknow.com.au), which is designed to give all Australians additional, useful information about the private health sector.
When you log on to the website you’ll find facts and figures about Private Health Insurance and you will also be able to sign-up to receive additional information via email.
Below is a snap-shot of just some of the information you can expect to find at www.youshouldknow.com.au:
- Since the 30% Rebate was introduced in 1999, total benefits paid by private health funds have increased by 183%.
- For the period 1 April 2009 until 30 March 2010, health funds paid $11.8 billion in benefits. This is an increase of 8.9% (or $907 million) on the previous year.
- Health funds pay for 57% of surgical procedures in Australia
- Private hospitals have a lower infection rate than public hospitals.
